- Does the Snapmaker U1 need the top cover for ABS?
- Yes — the optional Enclosure Top Cover with filtration is required for reliable ABS and ASA printing. Without it, the open top lets heat escape and chamber temperature drops too low to prevent warping. The top cover also includes a recirculating HEPA+carbon filter for fume management.
- Can I use different nozzle sizes on different toolheads?
- Yes — each toolhead is independent. You can run a 0.4 mm nozzle for detail work on one head and a 0.6 mm or 0.8 mm nozzle for fast infill on another. This is a unique advantage of the multi-toolhead design.
- Does the U1 print carbon fiber filament?
- PLA-CF and PETG-CF work with a hardened steel nozzle upgrade. The U1 ships with brass nozzles, which wear quickly with abrasive materials. Swap to hardened steel for any filled filaments. PA-CF requires the top cover and hardened nozzles.
- What slicer does the Snapmaker U1 use?
- The U1 uses OrcaSlicer, which has built-in Snapmaker U1 profiles. OrcaSlicer handles the multi-toolhead configuration natively, including toolhead assignment, purge calculations, and prime towers. Klipper firmware runs on the printer itself for high-speed motion control.

- The U1 is best suited for intermediate to advanced users who want multi-material capability.
