Creality entered the high-speed Core XY market with the K1 and K1 Max, offering an enclosed build volume, direct-drive extruder, and print speeds that rival much more expensive machines. The K1's 220 × 220 × 250 mm volume (300 × 300 × 300 mm on the K1 Max) and fully enclosed chassis make it a well-rounded printer for both hobbyist and functional prints. PLA and PLA+ Despite being a high-speed Core XY, the K1 prints PLA beautifully. With the enclosure door open or the top panel removed, PLA prints at high speeds (250–600 mm/s) produce excellent results. Creality's hyper-speed PLA profiles are well tuned out of the box. For standard PLA, we recommend nozzle temps of 200–220 °C and bed temps of 50–60 °C. PLA+ adds toughness with similar print settings. PETG PETG on the K1 is slightly trickier at high speeds. The enclosed chassis can trap heat, causing PETG to become stringy or ooze. We recommend: - Opening the top lid or leaving the door ajar during PETG prints. - Reducing print speeds to 100–150 mm/s. - Nozzle temp: 235–250 °C, bed temp: 75–85 °C. With these adjustments, PETG parts come out strong and consistent. ABS and ASA This is where the K1's enclosure shines. Unlike open-frame printers, the K1 maintains a stable chamber temperature that prevents ABS from warping. With the chamber closed and the bed at 100–110 °C, ABS prints reliably with minimal shrinkage. ASA is an excellent alternative when you need UV and weather resistance — it prints on nearly identical settings with less odor. TPU and Flexible Materials The K1's direct-drive extruder handles TPU well, though the long Bowden-style filament path from the top-mounted spool holder can add friction. For best results: - Use a side-mounted spool holder to reduce drag. - Print at 15–30 mm/s for soft TPU (85A–95A). - Nozzle temp: 220–240 °C, bed temp: 40–50 °C. Harder TPU grades (98A) can print at moderate speeds without issues. PLA-SILK and Specialty Filaments PLA-SILK prints beautifully on the K1. The enclosed chamber helps maintain consistent temperatures, reducing the stringing that silk filaments sometimes exhibit. Use slightly higher nozzle temps (215–230 °C) and slower outer-wall speeds for maximum shine effect. Glitter and metallic PLAs also work well. Creality K1 Max The K1 Max shares all the same material compatibility as the standard K1 but adds a larger build volume (300 mm³) and a higher-temperature bed. The larger volume is ideal for printing functional parts for engineering and prototyping. All of the guidance above applies identically.

FAQ

Does the Creality K1 need the enclosure closed for all materials?
No. For PLA and PLA+, keep the top lid open or the door ajar to prevent heat buildup, which can cause jams. For ABS, ASA, and engineering materials, close the enclosure fully to maintain a stable chamber temperature.
Can the K1 print carbon fiber filaments?
Yes, PLA-CF and similar filled materials work. Creality ships the K1 with a hardened steel nozzle, so abrasive wear is not an immediate concern. For heavily filled materials, expect faster nozzle wear over time and keep spares on hand.
What is the maximum nozzle temperature on the K1?
The K1's all-metal hotend reaches a maximum of 300 °C, which is sufficient for PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, and PC. For PA (nylon) and PA-CF, the higher end of the range (270–290 °C) works, though a hardened nozzle is recommended.
Is the K1 Max better for engineering materials?
