- Do I need a hardened nozzle for the P1S?
- Not for standard materials. The P1S ships with a stainless steel nozzle that handles PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, and TPU perfectly. For carbon-fiber or glass-filled filaments (PA-CF, PLA-CF, PETG-CF), you need to upgrade to a hardened steel nozzle — available from Bambu Lab for about $15.
- Can the P1S print polycarbonate?
- Yes, but with limitations. Polycarbonate requires 100 °C bed temperature (the P1S maximum) and benefits from higher chamber temperatures than the P1S naturally reaches. For small-to-medium PC parts, it works well. For large PC prints, the X1C with its 120 °C bed and higher chamber temperature is a better choice.
- Is the P1S chamber hot enough for ABS?
- Yes — the P1S chamber naturally reaches 45–55 °C during ABS printing, which is more than sufficient to prevent warping. Close the door and optional top glass, and preheat the bed at 100–110 °C for 5–10 minutes before starting your ABS print.
- What is the difference between P1S and X1C for filament compatibility?
- The P1S and X1C share the same extruder, hotend (300 °C max), and AMS compatibility. The X1C adds a 120 °C bed (vs 100 °C), a metal-frame enclosure that retains more chamber heat, and a stock hardened steel nozzle. For PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, and TPU, they are identical.
- Do I need to vent the P1S enclosure for PLA?
- Yes — keep the front door open or the top glass removed when printing PLA. The enclosed chamber traps heat that can soften PLA mid-print, causing jams. For ABS and ASA, close the enclosure fully. For PETG, partial venting (door slightly ajar) works best.
